APT URL Redirector was designed to replace the aging http://apt.ubuntu.com/ which has no user interface and does not work with any browser other than Firefox 2 and Firefox 3. The design and spec is detailed in full on the Ubuntu Wiki. The code base uses a modified version of the MCMVC framework and supports translations via the browser Accept-Language.
